I know it’s almost Christmas and we all are so busy, but who doesn’t have time for some ground up peppermint sticks in ice cream? I say when life gets too busy go back to the basics, comfort foods! This festive holiday treat will have your guests and family asking you ‘what is that fantastic texture in my mouth that feels like I’m eating sweet sparkles’. They won’t know what to think, they’ll just know they want more.
Something I really like about this recipe is the fact that you can customize it with very little change. I made these Candy Cane Peppermint Chocolate Milkshakes with an ice cream that has no eggs (My husband David doesn’t do so well with chicken eggs.) and with candy canes that have no food coloring!!
Let us gather our ingredients for the Candy Cane Peppermint Chocolate Milkshake!
We found these festive straws on amazon and they look great. I think they are made of a cardboard material. These straws might be great for something like soda but not so much for a milkshake. I would recommend a fatter straw as this one could not handle all the chunky treasures found in this drink. They worked for the photo shoot, though. “Green striped straw, are you ready for your close-up?”
Look at that lovely ice cream… Yum
These organic candy canes are GMO-free and colored with fruit juice. I also found these candy canes to be less dense in comparison to normal ones. They really work well for this recipe and are not that expensive for what you get.
Prepare yourself Mr. candy cane I am going to put you through a rigorous process that will turn you into something more than you are, a Candy Cane Peppermint Chocolate Milkshake.
Should we put a spin on this situation…
Start with a base layer of chocolate chips and candy canes. Grind for just a little bit.
Now add your ice cream, peppermint flavor
Your blender should look something like this
Once you give it some power your creation should turn to a soft chocolatey brown. Make sure not to blend too long as it will not only take out that lovely chunky texture but, also make the shake runny as the blades will heat it up. Enjoy!
